New Developments round the Original Shrine 1973
KN Nr. VIII/11, 6.4.1973, p. 138:
- There has still been some movement as the redevelopment of the property around the shrine comes to a conclusion. The garden near the Old Tower has been leveled and planted. Paths have been laid out, trees and shrubs planted, and galvanized railings placed on top of low walls.
- The Vallendar authorities are still digging up the Gilgenborn street in order to lay new water pipes. This made it possible for us to examine a piece of collapsed ditch opened by the excavators close to Josef’s House. Experts were of the opinion that it was the remains of the legendary underground passage that once joined the Schoenstatt cloister with the Rhine island, Niederwerth. Could this be correct? Probably we will see the area covered by the former “Old Schoenstatt” in a completely new guise at the beginning of May, and finally be able to walk there without obstacles blocking our way.
